Last Wednesday's home victory of "Prometey" over Italian club "Germani Brescia" extended the winning streak of "red and white" in the European arena to four matches. This is a reiteration of the club achievement set a year ago. That time, the best club of Ukraine, at the Champions league play-in stage surpassed Israeli “Hapoel Jerusalem” teice, and then, in the second group round, Spanish “Unikaja” and Belgian “Ostende”.
“Prometey” will be able to set a new club record in case of success in the confrontation with Turkish “Frutti Extra Bursaspor”. In the first round, in Riga, our team celebrated the success – 90:84. To their second duel, “Prometey” and “Bursaspor” approach with 7 and 6 wins in the assets respectively.
“It does not speak about anything that they have 6 wins and we have 7. There are a lot of matches to play and all teams are very equal, anything may happen – you can come first and you can come last” – noticed the head coach of “Prometey” Ronen Ginzburg on the eve of confrontation in Bursa.
4 out of 6 successful matches of the nearest “Prometey” rival in the EuroCup were played at the home arena. At home, “Bursaspor” conceded only to German “Ratiopharm Ulm” (as well as “Prometey” did). Ronen Ginzburg has highlighted this fact: “Bursaspor” lost at home in the EuroCup only once this season. In the Turkish league they lost only to big team like “Fenerbahce”. As I said, Bursa is one of the hardest places to play for the guest teams”.
Besides that, the players of “Bursaspor” will be double motivated because in the last match of the 7DAYS EuroCap regular season, they suffered an unpleasant minimal defeat in Spanish Badalona. The match “Joventut” – “Bursaspor” turned out to be gripping with a dramatic end. 12seconds before the final siren, Spaniards led by 5 points (82:77). The guard of the guest team, in the individual drive, brought his team “2+1”. After that, a legionary of “Bursaspor” Anthony Clemmons stole the ball and made an assist to another team leader Onuralp Bitim. 82:82 and 6.6 seconds until the final siren! Overtime seemed unavoidable. However, a point guard of “Joventut” Andres Feliz managed a drive across the entire court and found a foul from Bitim. Feliz hit the first free throw, but missed the second one for purpose, as “Bursaspor” had just one and a half second. It was enough to make a rebound and throw from the own part of the court (Bitim), nevertheless to hit from there would be something extraordinary! 83:82 in favour of “Joventut”; and “Bursaspor” transferred their ambitious plans to the match against “Prometey”.
It is absolutely impossible to anticipate the winner of tomorrow’s match. “Prometey” fans have every reason to hope that of their favourites will celebrate another success. The best club of Ukraine is in the great shape now and their possible win won’t be a big tournament sensation.
