A home confrontation of the 7DAYS EuroCup 16th tour, “Prometey” played against probably the most inconsistent team of Group A. French “Bourg” started the group stage with 4 wins in a row, was in leas after a home victory over Ukrainian club and then suddenly slowed down. After December’s confrontation, French team had three streaks of four defeats in a row; however, during one of the successful periods Frederic Fauthoux’s team mighty played in the National Leaders Cup having made it to the final. So, today’s extremely important confrontation for both teams was hardly predictable.
In the debut of the match, the first points were scored in the end of second minute, when Illia Sydorov came to the foul line but hit only one throw. First five-minute segment also finished with a minimal advantage of our team (8:7). “Prometey” started finding their game back in the starting quarter, turning on an active pressing. After a rebound and break away by James Dickey in 8th minute the score was 15:11 in favour of the hosts; and Frederic Fauthoux had to take a timeout. After the coach’s instructions, the guests reduced their lag to minimum but their activities were extinguished with two three-pointers by DJ Stephens. The teams went for the first break with a score of 21:16 in favour of “red and white”.
In the debut of the second quarter, "Prometey" succeeded in their signature fast attack, and the entire team fought selflessly under both backboards. In response, "Bourg" began acting in a positional offense more effectively than in the first quarter, but this was not enough to seize the initiative. “Prometey’s” trump cards, including successful attacks from the perimeter (at the end of the quarter, two by Oleksandr Lypovyy and one by Illia Sydorov) were more significant. Ukrainian team went to the long break with a handicap of “+11”.
After a 15-minute rest, "Prometey" continued dominating on the court of " Arena Riga ". In 26th minute, after a dunk by Ondrej Balvin, our team's advantage reached 18 points (64:46). After a minute, DJ Stephens recorded in his asset the 5th three-pointer in the match. In response, "Bourg" reduced their lag to 9 points, but Gian Clavell "closed" the third quarter with an incredible buzzer beater - 74:62.
In the final ten-minute segment, “red and white” skilfully and calmly brought the game to a victorious end. Ukrainian club kept their leadership on Group A and after the finishing of the EuroCup first stage will come at least second.
