"Prometey" will end the working week on September 11 with the third control match within the Latvian gathering. Matches with two Lithuanian Superleague (LKL) representatives, “Juventus” and “Pieno Zvaigzdes”, are separated by only two days.
On Saturday, September 10, the coaching staff of our team has planned a joint with video analysis of the match against "Juventus" and an evening "throwing" training session without too much loads. We can already say that tomorrow "Prometey" will play with the same line-up as in the match against "Juventus".
“Prometey” rival, “Pieno Zvaigzdes”, represents the small Lithuanian town of Pasvalis with a population of about 7,000. Since the 2011/2012 season, Pieno Zvaygzdes has been a regular participant in the LKL championship. The highest achievement is the 4th place in the 2014/2015 season. This success is connected to the name of the current first assistant to head coach of "Prometey" Mantas Sernius. Mantas worked as the head coach of "Pieno Zvaigzdes" from 2014 to 2016, as well as last season, when the team took 9th place in the LKL. Their main sniper (15.9 points per match) was Randy Culpepper, well known to “Prometey” fans. However, Randy will not play against “Prometey”: he left the team during the offseason. Instead, Ukrainian ex-forward of "Khimik" and "Kyiv-Basket" Artem Kovalev appeared in it in the summer. Ukrainian center Dmytro Skapintsev spent the end of last season in Pieno Zhvayzdes. Dmytro signed a contract with the club after russia's full-scale aggression against Ukraine began.
Currently, Dmytro, as well as "Prometey" players Issuf Sanon, Denys Lukashov, Illia Sydorov and Ivan Tkachenko, is together with the Ukrainian National team at EuroBasket, therefore participation in the match "Prometey" - "Pieno Zhvayzdes" for all these players is impossible. In general, "Pieno Zhvayzdes" is still at the stage of formation of the team. So, for example, in some training matches, Artem Kovalev had to play in a position of center, which is not typical for him. "Prometey" has formed the squad for the season, but Mantas Šernius can rely only on half of the players at the Latvian gathering.
