A central confrontation of the current game week of the Latvian-Estonian league, where Prometey played against VEF Riga, capped the festive basketball day in the capital of Latvia. In the daytime duel, the league’s newbie Riga Zelli faced Ventspils at Arena Riga. This confrontation finished with the win of Riga Zelli by one possession – 89:86.
We could also expect a tense and competitive clash from the match between Prometey and VEF Riga. In these regards, the confrontation completely met our expectations. However, in the debut of the game, the “titans” put the opponent in a hot water. Without any exaggerations, the starting quarter could be called the one of Marcus Keene: 5 hits in a row from the perimeter and 18 total points. Prometey was constantly in lead and well deserved won this ten-minute segment – 28:19.
At the beginning of the quarter №2, Ronen Ginzburg’s squad, thanks to Rashard Kelly and Ronald March’s performance, increased their handicap. The teams went for the long break with the comfortable “+13” for Ukrainian club.
After the long break, in the debut of the third quarter, the productiveness of both opponents dropped to minimum. Although Prometey kept the rival at a distance, VEF Riga, with its 8:0 run within the last one and a half minute of the quarter, secured a chance to win.
In the 34th minute, the best Latvian club reduced its lag to minimum – 53:54. An intrigue degree has approached a boiling point. However, at the end of the game, great Prometey’s experience to win clutches and just the higher class of the team had its effect. At the expense of enormous efforts, the “titans” managed to win with a score of 70:66.
Next Wednesday, on November 1, our team is awaiting much more challenging confrontation in the BKT EuroCup. This day they will play against Paris Basketball.
