Today, on December 21, the day of basketball birth is celebrated.

It is supposed, that exactly on this day, December 21, 1891, the American teacher James Naismith invented basketball to keep his students active during the winter months and keep them fit.

He nailed two peach baskets to the railings of the gym balcony and suggested students to shoot balls into the baskets inventing a new game for dexterity and coordination, which, after being slightly modified, came to be known today as basketball.

By the way, it was Naismith, who, back in 1982, offered the first basketball rules, which consisted of 13 points. Most of them are still in effect up to now.
