In the “Prometey” roster there are several players, who has already participated in the EuroCup games. One of them is DJ Stephens, with whom “Prometey” press-service conversed on the eve of the club’s debut in the EuroCup.
-DJ, “Prometey” is debuting in the EuroCup. Is this game special to you?
-I mean, of course, this game is more important to us, as it is a Europian competition game. And of course, we want to compete, we want to be able to win, to be able to represent our club. And it’s like something a little bit of extra added, as firstly we played only for “Prometey”, but now we are going to play for Ukraine as well.
-You already played in the EuroCup in your second season in Europe. Tell us, please, about that experience.
-For me, playing in European competitions, either in ULEB EuroCup or in FIBA Champions League as well, is big for me, because as a basketball player you want to play against the best players possible. You want to go into those big games, and have that atmosphere when you win. You know, you have your team and you try to win, to take them as far as you can. It’s unforgettable to win the championship as well. To be back at the EuroCup after 8 years, means something to me. But right now, the goal is every night to come in and just try to compete in every game, one by one during the entire season and, of course, enter the play-off.
-What do you know about our first opponent Lietkabelis”? What can you say about this team?
-Well, I know that Lithuanian team and I know that Lithuanian teams usually play really hard, really tough and very aggressively. I know it’s going to be a tough game, but also a good test for us. So, let’s see who we are as a team. As we played two great games in Turkey and we played two games here, in Latvia and we have won them with a pretty good margin. But the true test for us will be on Wednesday, to see how we really play. So far we know how we play in the local league, now let’s see our team in the European competition. I am excited to see how we play in Euro arena.
-Do you expect the support of your fans? Will you be glad to feel their support?
-I am not sure if we can have enough support here, in Riga. It’s a little bit of strange situation, because the Ukrainian team is in the different country. And I know that Ukrainian fans are scattered all around in the neighbouring countries, So, I think, over time, people will start coming together, they will support more and more games of the team from their homeland. Maybe we will have our fans here. Anyway, whether we have fans here or not, we will play only for victory in every game.
