Enacting of the state of emergency won't stop sporting competitions - FBU

Запровадження надзвичайного стану на території України не зупинить спортивні змагання - ФБУ

A state of emergency has to be declared in Ukraine today. One of its requirements is prohibition of holding mass events. However, according to the official website of the Basketball Federation, this does not apply to sporting events. Sports events will be held even after implementation of the state of emergency by Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. However, they will take place without fans.

On February 23, the National Security and Defense Council appealed to the Verkhovna Rada to enact a state of emergency on the entire territory of Ukraine, except for Luhansk and Donetsk regions. This happened against the background of the threat of a new invasion of Russian troops into Ukraine.

Later, a presidential decree on the state of emergency in Ukraine from midnight on February 24 appeared on the Verkhovna Rada website. It provided for a ban on mass and sporting events.

Before voting for a state of emergency, the leaders of the Verkhovna Rada factions agreed on some changes.

In particular, according to the new version, enacting of the state of emergency will not forbid the holding of sporting events. They will continue to be held, but without spectators, therefore, do not fall under the ban on holding mass events.

The voting in Verkhovna Rada is expected in the near future.
