7DAYS EuroCup semi-final confrontation of “Prometey” and Turkish club “Turk Telekom Ankara”, out of doubt, attracted attention of the entire sport community in Ukraine. Reaching the EuroCup semi-final is quite an event for any domestic club of any sport! One-step to the decisive EuroCup match, our team had to compete with the opponent that, alike “red and white”, is having a phenomenal season. However, in the previous playoff round, they had to overcome desperate resistance of German club “Ratiopharm Ulm”. Today’s “Prometey” rival was inferior during 35 minutes and “exploded” only in the last 5-minute segment. A week back, Turkish club faced aggressive and organised defence from German side. Similarly, “Prometey” looked exemplary in the quarterfinal in terms of defensive actions. The way of Ukrainian club towards the decisive match was seen today through the excellent defence.
In the debut of the match, “red and white“ acted exactly like they had to, allowing the opponent to score only 5 points within first four minutes. At the same time, they distinguished themselves with 13 points, 6 of which Gian Clavell recorded to his assets (two successful attempts from the arc) and 5 were scored by Ondrej Balvin. In the 8th minute, after another three-pointer by Clavell, the handicap of "Prometey" reached the mark of "10+" for the first time in this match (21:10). The advantage of the Ukrainian club was almost as comfortable at the end of the first quarter, but in its last minutes, the guests started succeeding in their shots.
“Turk Telekom” completely “came to game” after the first break. In the 15th minute, French legionnaire of the guests, Bouteille, reduced their deficit to a minimum (26:27) with an accurate three-point shot. The second quarter turned out to be the quarter of Turkish club. Its players reached 50% accuracy from the perimeter, which allowed the team to set their lead. In one of the moments, the advantage of “Turk Telekom” reached 5 points and as for results of 20 minutes, it was Turkish team, who went for the long break in a status of the leader.
Within the following 18 minutes, “Turk Telekom” led in score. However, our team did not let the opponent break away. And within the last 100 seconds, our team finally “exploded”. 2+1 by Clavell, needed steal by Agada, three-pointer by Stephens – and it was already 74:73 in favour of “Prometey”! Unfortunately, these efforts were not enough for such a needed victory. 12 seconds before the end of the match, at the score of 75:74 in favour of the guests, Caleb Agada missed his mid-range shot. Then Balvin fouled on Jones, luckily the opponent hit only one throw from the foul line. “Prometey” had one more chance not only save the match but win it, however, this chance was not taken.
