On the eve of the start of "Prometey" in the Latvian-Estonian league Pavbet

Напередодні старту "Прометея" у Латвійсько-Естонській лізі Pavbet

BC "Prometey" - BC "Ogre" (Ogre, Latvia). October 1. Latvian-Estonian basketball league Pafbet. 1st tour. Riga (Latvia). Olympic Center “Rimi”. 18:30. Broadcast - YouTube channel "DIVISPORT BASKETBALL".

On October 1, a new chapter of 4-year history will be opened for "Prometey" with a match against the Latvian club "Ogre". In the 2022/2023 season, our team will play in two new tournaments at once, and the match against "Ogre" will take place within one of them - the Pavbet Latvian-Estonian Basketball League (LEBL).

This Baltic league was organized in 2018 by the joint efforts of the Latvian and Estonian basketball federations. Starting from the 2018/2019 season, 4 tournaments were held, one of which (2019/2020) ended prematurely due to the coronavirus pandemic. The winners of the LEBL were Latvian "Ventspilis" and VEF (last season) and Estonian "Kalev".

In the 2022/2023 season, 15 teams will participate in LEBL: 8 from Estonia, 6 from Latvia and our "Prometey". The LEBL regular championship will be held in two rounds - the opponents will play with each other at home and away, then the best eight teams will continue the fight in the quarter-final series, the winners of which will advance to the Final Four.

Ukrainian players of "BC Prometey" will be considered as local basketball players, and citizens of other countries will fall under the legionary limit - no more than four foreign players can participate in each match.

The first rival of "Prometey" - BC "Ogre" represents the Latvian city of the same name, Ogre, which is located on the right bank of the Daugava at the confluence of the Ogre River, 35 kilometres southeast of Riga. The professional basketball club itself has existed since 2014. "Ogre" has considerable authority in the LEBL. The team participated in the Final Four three times. In the 2020/2021 season, they won LEBL bronze and lost twice to their opponents in the 3rd place match. The last such failure happened last season, and following the results of its regular part, the 32-year-old heavy forward of "Ogre" Kristaps Dargais became the most valuable player of the league. Kristaps will spend the upcoming season as part of "Ogre", and in general, the roster of the "Prometey" rival consists exclusively of Latvian players.

As for “Prometey”, the head coach of the team, Ronen Ginzburg, assured in his pre-season interview that the team is fully ready for the first match, but 2-3 more weeks are needed for the full readiness for the whole season. "Ogre" is a good team. I need to watch more to know them better. However, I believe that at this time we should focus primarily on ourselves. First of all, we have to be ready, and then look at the opponent," said the coach of the "red and whites".

Probably, "Prometey" with their experience of the most difficult games in the Champions League is one of the main contenders for victory in the LEBL. Club president Volodymyr Dubynskyy sets exactly this goal for the team. However, before the start of the team in the League, Ronen Ginzburg says that it will be extremely difficult to win all the matches of the tournament.

At the same time, “Prometey” will try to obtain their first LEBL victory very soon. It will be possible to follow the course of events in the match thanks to the video broadcast on the "DIVISPORT BASKETBALL" YouTube channel, starting at 18:30.
