In the second match on thecourt of the Mariupol sports complex "Azovmash" the local MBC "Mariupol" and our "Prometey-2-DDTU" played the unofficial title of the winner of the first round in their group of the High League championship. The match turned out to be worthy of the best teams of our group, in which there was a place for sharp plot twists, and in its last minutes there was a dramatic outcome, which led to the revenge of the Mariupol club for yesterday's defeat.
The hosts looked better in the first quarter. "Prometey-2-DDTU" took the lead for the first time only in the 4th minute (Maxim Bezyma's end-one) but at the end of ten minutes with an equal score of 12:12 Mariupol made a jerk 5:0 (hit from afar by Mykhaylo Shkoda and two-point throw by Nikita Bibikov, who missed yesterday's match due to an ankle injury), which allowed Sergei Zavalin's team to win it.
In the second quarter, the Red and Whites not only eliminated this gap, but also took the lead (27:26) thanks to two consecutive accurate shots by Pavlo Gorobchenko's from the arc, but in the 15th minute after Bibikov's spectacular individual pass, Mariupol was ahead by 7 points - 36:29. Even before the big break, "Prometey-2-DDTU" managed to reduce its gap to a minimum, and a few seconds before the siren the opponent was ahead by 4 points, but first Gorobchenko realized a free throw for a Skoda’s technical foul, and then Bezyma forced Lukyanov to foul and hit twice from the line of free throws.
If before the long break in general our team played below its capabilities (a little more than 30 percent of accurate throws from the game). Then, the third quarter was just great. Reliable defense helped Dmitry Markov's wards find their chances ahead. With a score of 46:46, they managed a great jerk 12:0! Vladyslav Orzul scored 8 points in a row (long-range hit, end-one and individual pass), and after Vlad's long throw finishing off by Mykhailo Bublyk completed this productive series.
With the handicap "+12" for "Prometey-2-DDTU" rivals started the final quarter. Most of it was under the sign of control of the game by the guests: at the beginning of 37 minutes, they led with a difference of 11 points. Unfortunately, the last 220 seconds of the match turned everything upside down. In the final 2 minutes, the team was already with a minimal precedence of "Prometey-2-DDTU" (72:71). At a very important moment, Pavlo Horobchenko failed to complete his individual actions. In response, Mariupol three times (!) made mistakes with inside shots under the backboard of guests, but Maxim Lukyanov still managed to compele Daniil Pirogov till a foul and succeeded in both free throws. Prometey-2-DDTU had 28 seconds left to escape, but Ihor Klimov lost the ball in the attack, after which he immediately fouled on Skoda. The guard of "Mariupol" made only one free throw, but it was enough to win, as Dmitry Markov's wards managed to bring the ball only to the center of the field, where Pirohov's desperate throw did not reach the goal.
The score in the confrontation of rivals in this paired tour was a draw (1:1), and as a result, "Prometey-2-DDTU" finished the first round in second place.
