The teams that successfully started in the tournament, Besiktas, Turkey and our Prometey opposed each other in the opening clash of the BKT EuroCup second round in Group A. Today’s confrontation turned out to be very difficult for the “titans” since it was underway at the opponent’s arena. Alike any other Turkish team, Besiktas had a decent support at the home arena. In terms of the game, the team also had quite a few necessary arguments, mainly while organising defensive actions.
However, at the debut of the confrontation, Prometey was better near its rim. There was no considerable problems in offence. Within the first five minutes, Kaleb Agada and Tai Odiase scored 4 points each. It allowed the visitors to create the first more or less comfortable run – 10:2. In respond, Besiktas started to find needed options in offence. In 8th minute, there was just one point between the teams – 12:11 in favour of Prometey. The further, the more. 40 seconds before the first break, Jonah Mathews (8 points in the starting quarter) aced both foul throws and, for the first time in the match, drove Besiktas ahead – 18:17.
Besiktas continued “exploding” in the debut of the second quarter as well – 26:17 in favour of Turkish club in the 12th minute. Long-range throws did not work for Prometey (1hit out of 9 within 15 minutes), however, necessary aggression served to help our team in all parts of the court. Unfortunately, not long before the long break, “titans” were falling by 15 points and this looked threatening.
The game needed to be enhanced already in the second half. In the debut of the quarter N3, Davon Reed started limping and went to the locker room – Prometey’s difficulties was going on. At the end of the quarter, Rashard Kelly tried to light up his teammates with two hits from the perimeter.
However, today was clearly not Prometey’s day. Our team was not able to change the flow of the game in the final ten-minute segment and lost to its rival with a a score of 70:92. After the two EuroCup games, Ukrainian club has a 1-1 win/loss balance.
