Gian Clavell: "I came to "Prometey" because I wanted to be a champion"

Джиан Клавелл: "Я прийшов до "Прометея", тому що хотів бути чемпіоном

The player of BC “Prometey” Gian Clavell shared his impressions of the Final four of the Latvian-Estonian league and his thoughts about the upcoming EuroCup game against BC “Hamburg Towers”.

- Gian, I congratulate you on the MVP award of the Latvian-Estonian league. What does this award mean to you?

- First of all, thank you. This award means a lot, you know, it means all the hard work and everything you’ve been doing. But the most thing, the best thing is that it’s not really me, it’s all about the team. Without the team I wouldn’t have earned this, without every single player I would not be the MVP. So I think it’s just a team award and I am really grateful to them.

- I wish you to become also a EuroCup MVP! Gian, before the final of the Latvian-Estonian league, “Prometey” lost four main players, but won the final. It’s unbelievable! You scored and played well in the final and in the playoffs in general. Are you happy for yourself and for your teammates? Are you ready to continue in the same way?

- Of course, I am ready to continue. I mean, I am ready to continue until everybody comes back, you know. We’ve got two players who cannot come back at all, but some of them can come back earlier. And again, it’s  a team, I am putting the best position to the best I can and my teammates are giving me the full confidence to do what I do. So, this is not an individual thing, it’s a team thing, so again they give me the confidence and I just do in the court what I do.

- I saw, you gave all your strength in the final games of the LEBL and I saw and filmed how you laid on the floor. How do you feel now?

- I feel good! I feel like a champion! It’s great feelings. I always wanted to win a championship. Actually, I came to “Prometey” because I wanted to win a championship. So I feel really good about it, it’s a great accomplishment because all the guys are hurt and we only have several players, so that made it even sweeter. So I was just super happy and grateful that we have just won the championship.

- What do you think, “Prometey” is ready to get on Tuesday, April 11, its 48 victory in the season?

- Yes, we are going to prepare, we are preparing to win this game. They are a good team and we are also a good team. It’s going to come down to whoever wants it most and whoever plays best defence. We are both great offensive teams. We just have to come ready to play on Tuesday and that’s it.

- “Hamburg” won only twice on the road. How do you rate our chance in this game?

- Well, our chances are good. I mean, our chances are good against any team honestly. I feel it just the way you come out and you approach a game. I think, we have to approach this game very seriously, like the last three games we had a different approach to the game. I mean we just have to come and be a defensive minded team. Everything else will take care of itself.
