Prometey newcomer, Gian Clavell, explains why he has chosen our club to continue his career, about his goals, about the matches for the National team and who his biggest fan is.

 

- Gian, we are glad to welcome you at "Prometey". Please, tell us why you decided to choose our team to continue your career?

 

- These was not difficult decision. I kept "Prometey" in my head, because even last season I knew that there were good coaches and strong players. Last season I saw what Prometey was like. I know the achievements of this club; I know my partners in the new team. So, when I was called to Prometey, I said, "OK, I'm ready!". It was not a difficult choice.

 

- You saw our club last season. Not from inside, but close. Did that play a decisive role in your decision to move to Prometey?

 

-It was really so. I knew the championship, I knew the club, the players, I knew what kind of the team Prometey was building, the achievements of this team. And I am happy to be here, and I want to win with Prometey.

 

 - Why did you choose a Ukrainian club, despite the fact that there is a war in Ukraine, and anything might happen?

 

- Firstly, as I said, I know the Prometey team. Secondly, I want to support Ukraine now as much as possible. Nice people live in Ukraine. I lived in Kyiv, I liked it, as well as Dnipro. I wanted to support "Prometey" and Ukraine. It is an honour for me to represent the team of this country at such a terrible time for them.

 

 

- Our club has finished the team completing for the season. In particular, DJ Kennedy and DJ Stephens returned back to the line-up. How do you like the roster?

 

 

- The composition is really good. Last season, Prometey had a really strong team. And some players returned to the club. We will have a strong team. I love Stephens' energy. I know Kennedy, we are friends. So, I know Kennedy, I know Stephens, I know how qualified players they are. And I am very glad to be a part of such a team.

 

 

- Did you communicate with any of the other guys? With Hogue, Agada, Balvin, Ukrainians?

 

 

- I know all Ukrainians of "Prometey" as I played against them. I know Kennedy and Stephens, but I don’t know the rest of the legionnaires. However, I am sure that during training process and games we will develop a good relationship.

 

 

- In what role do you see yourself in the new team? Maybe you already talked about it with the coach?

 

 

- My role is to score points. First of all, I am a scorer. This is my strength. However, I will try to give the team everything they need. To work well in defence. I will do my best to make Prometey win in every single game. Everything possible - rebounding, defence. I always strive to be a leader.

 

 

- Do you set any individual goals for yourself? Is it primarily to win and be the best version of yourself?

 

 

- I always want to be the best version of myself. I want to win championships. Individual achievements should be an addition to team achievements. The MVP award should be obtained because you are the representative of the strongest team. I want to win as many matches as possible. I want to win the championship and the EuroCup, and enter the Euroleague. And individual awards are the logical result of the maximum contribution to the game of a strong team.

 

 

- So your main expectation from the season is to win the EuroCup and enter the Euroleague? You played in the EuroCup and you know the level of this tournament.

 

 

-Sure. The EuroCup is a high-level tournament. In order to win there, we have to do as much as we can. If we can play at our maximum, if everyone is healthy, then everything should be fine, we will make it, we have enough strong players.

 

 

- You said the word "healthy". Due to injury you withdrew from the game last November. In April, you signed up in your homeland in Puerto Rico and played until July...

 

 

- Yes, I started playing in April, as at that time I was 100 percent ready to return to the court. And now I feel completely ready to play. In less than a month, I have matches for the Puerto Rican National team – firstly, two qualification games for the World Cup, then the Cup of America, which will last until September 11. After that I will start working with "Prometey".

 

 

-At the start of July, you played for Puerto Rico, against the USA and Mexico and were one of the most effective players. Tell us about these matches.

 

 

- Of course, we wanted to win these duels. I was very happy to be able to play for my country again as it is an honour for me. We played at home, we had great support, it was incredible. I am not very happy with the result, because we conceded in one of the matches. However, we played well.

 

 

-In a month, Puerto Rico will play against Brazil and Uruguay. Do you have a chance to qualify for the World Cup. Is this a top priority for the National team?

 

 

-Yeah... We want to make it to the World Cup. And we will do our best for this. We have a very important game against Brazil at home and we have to win. Then the opposition with Uruguay is waiting for us, it will not be easy because they have a good team, Fittipaldo and Granger are strong players. However, I hope we can stop them.

 

 

- You said that you would be with the National team until September 11, and then you will join Prometey. At that time, your partners will also play for the National team at EuroBasket...

 

 

- I follow the National team of Ukraine. The guys played very well in the previous window, played three good games and had a great chance. I will follow them on EuroBasket as well. The European Championship is a strong, interesting tournament.

 

- We want to ask you a few questions that are not directly related to basketball. If someone asked you to describe yourself in a few words, what would you say?

 

 

- I would say that I am calm, friendly, sociable, very energetic. I am a very happy person because I have a wonderful family, I am a family man. I like to go to the cinema, relax with my family. I want to spend all my free time with my family.

 

 

- Do you have any hobbies? Or do you just spend all your time with your family?

 

 

- Yes, I dedicate myself exclusively to my family, I play with my daughter, we go to the movies. Now I spend my vacation with my family, which is what I love to do.

 

 

- Is your daughter your best fan?

 

 

-Sure. She is trying to play basketball and understand the game a little. I would say yes, she is the biggest fan.

 

 

- Who will be you supporter together with your daughter during the season in "Prometey"?

 

 

- First of all, my wife, also my brother. My wife is my biggest support. She was with me in Kyiv. Yes, my wife and daughter are my main support in everything.

 

 

-Say a few words to the Prometey fans who are looking forward to the new season.

 

 

- To play in the uniform of "Prometey" is an honour for me. I am happy that "Prometey" gave me a chance. And I will do my best to win every game and get the championship in every tournament. I am very grateful to everyone who gave me this chance.
