BC "Prometey" press service continues monitoring the signings of our future opponents in the 7DAYS EuroCup. The following changes occurred during the week:
"Litkabelis" confirmed the transfer of Benas Griciunas. Griciunas (2.10m, 28) averaged 11.4 points and 6.6 rebounds in 20.8 minutes in 33 Lithuanian League games last season within the line-up of “Neptunas” (Klaipeda). Griciunas was born in the United States and played student basketball for universities of Auburn, Charlotte and Eastern Washington. His professional career he started in the Lithuanian BC Šiauliai in 2018.
Besides Griciunas, this week “Litkabelis” signed Estonian shooting guard Kristian Kullamäe (1.94m, 23). As part of Spanish Burgos, he scored 8.8 points and 1.8 rebounds in the Champions League. Christian is the son of the former Euroleague player, champion of the USSR, Lithuania, Belgium, the Netherlands and seven-time champion of Estonia Gert Kullamäe. As a coach, Kullamäe Sr. is a two-time champion and five-time winner of the Estonian Cup. And now he heads the Tallinn "TALTECH" - a rival of "Prometey" in the Latvian-Estonian league. Kristian Kullamäe debuted in the Estonian national team in 2019 and has been a regular player since then, so he is likely to play on September 3 at EuroBasket 2022 against the Ukrainian National team.
"Ratiofarm Ulm" signed a two-year contract with forward Josh Hawley (2.01 meters, 25 years old). He moved from Romanian club “Craiova”, where he averaged 14.8 points, 7.7 rebounds and 2.0 steals in 32 league games, with 11 double-doubles. In April, Hawley had 35 points, 11 rebounds and 6 steals with RE 40 against the future champions, the well-known Romanian club Cluj, who, like Prometey, is debuting in Eurocup and will be our group opponent. Hawley spent his first professional season in Georgia in 2020-21. Prior to that, he played college basketball at Tarleton State University, where he finished fourth in scoring with 1,578 points and third in rebounds (968), steals (168) and blocks (138).
“Cluj” added to their roster a player with EuroCup experience by signing swingman Viktor Sanders (1.94 meters, 27 years old). Sanders moved to Romanian team from Prometey's another group rival, “Rayo Venezia”, where he averaged 7.4 points, 1.6 assists, 1.5 rebounds and 1.2 steals in 16 games. It was his second consecutive season in the EuroCup. Earlier, Sanders played in Belgium for “Antwerp”, helping them reach the Champions League Final Four in 2019. He also won two Belgian Cups. "Antwerp" and "Venice" it the total Sanders' European professional experience after the University of Idaho and, as you can see, quite successful.
So, our opponents added young, but already experienced players to their line-ups. We will continue observing how our opponents are being formed. Look for a new review of signings from our rivals next Sunday on our club resources.
