Its tenth match in the Latvian-Estinian league, “Prometey” played at the Olympic centre Rimi against one of the most authoritative Estonian clubs “Tartu Ulikool”. Last season, today’s rival of the “titans” sat in third place in the league having lost in the semi-final exactly to our team. This season, the club from Tartu got off not to a good start, however no one could question its fighting ability.
The hosts of the court once again had an opportunity to make sure of this already in the debut of the game. During the first ten-minute segment, mostly “Tartu” led in score and only at the cost of great efforts, Ronen Ginzburg’s team won the quarter.
The appearance of the last season MVP of the league Gian Clavell was the main feature of not only the second quarter but also the entire match (at the end of the game, there was also a debut of the long-term team’s captain Denys Lukashov in the season). Gian did not need much time to remind about his shooter skills. Two his mid-range hits went to a treasury of the team, whose handicap before the long break reached two-digit mark – 48:38. Today’s overall accuracy of the Puerto Rican legionnaire was 57% - great figure for the first game after such a long pause!
The intrigue in this confrontation lived long. The team of the Latvian basketball legend Gundars Vetra fought at the edge of their abilities in the second half of the game as well, trying not to let “Prometey” off too far. The 10:0 run by the “titans” in two and a half minutes to go in the third quarter decided a lot in this confrontation.
In the final ten-minute segment, the “titans” confidently finished all formalities – 93:71 in their favour – and turned back in the first line of the tournament standings.
