Latvia turned out to be a real sensation of the current basketball World Cup, which is now going on in three Asians countries – the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia. This WC is a debut one for the National team of Latvia, where they managed to advance from the group, initially, on the first and then on the second stage and reach the quarterfinals.

In 1/4 finals, Latvia lost to German National team (79:81), although the team’s leader Davis Bertans, in the last seconds of the match, had a three-pointer attempt for victory and could bring Latvians to the semi-finals, but failed.

Today, On September 7, Latvia defeated Italy (87:82) in the tournament for the 5-8 places and secured a place among the six best teams of the WC. Latvians will play for the fifth place of the Worlsd Cup against the winner of the pair Lithuania – Slovenia.

For already second year after the full-scale russia’s invasion, Latvia is a second home for Ukrainian “Prometey”. Congratulations to the National team of the friendly country on a really historic achievement and a mighty performance at the world championship!
