“Prometey” will close the second dozen of official matches in the Latvian-Estonian league with a home confrontation with Estonian club “AVIS UTILITAS Rapla”. The teams got to know each other in the late December of the last year. That time undeniable leader of the LEBL, without any problems, surpassed the opponent at its own arena with the score of 95:73. By and large, the outcome of that confrontation was decided yet at the starts of the second half of the game.
“Rapla” started the new 2023 year with a road defeat in a very important match against Latvian “Ogre” (75:92). After that, the nearest rival of “Prometey” obtained two wins over their compatriots – “Tallinn Kalev/Audentes” and “Keila KK”. At the beginning of this week, the team of Croatian specialist Arnel Dedic played a high-quality home match against “VEF Riga”. “Rapla” lost by three points (71:74), though they led in the first half of the confrontation”+14” and as a result surpassed one of the LEBL leaders in many parameters. For example, Estonians attacked better from the perimeter than their opponents did and fought under the backboards, they scored a lot from the opponent’s three-second zone, including second-chance points, also breakaways worked well for them.
The match of “Rapla” against “VEF” has demonstrated a significant potential of the next “Prometey” opponent. Tomorrow’s game will show whether they are able to implement it though partly in the confrontation with the best club of Ukraine. At least, psychological burden won’t hinder “Prometey” guests as “Rapla” fans are not going to condemn their favourites for the loss in Riga. Nothing is threatening the team’s tournament position in the play-off zone (6th place).
