“Prometey” will finish the ongoing week with a home confrontation with “Latvijas Universitate” club within the Latvian-Estonian league Pafbet.

The nearest opponent of our club is a young club founded in 2011. They represent Riga, the capital city of Latvia. “Latvijas Universitate” can be called young in terms of the players’ age: most of them are of the age of 19 – 20.

“Latvijas Universitate” is a permanent participant of the Latvian championship and since 2019 of the LEBL as well. In the Latvian-Estonian league, however, the team has not reached higher than 11th place in the regular season. Following the results of the last tournament, they have the same position. In the Latvian championship, the success of the “red and white” rival is more significant: in 2012 and in the previous season they reached the semi-final of the championship.

In the current LEBL tournament, the club from the Latvian capital is sitting in 10th position with a lag of one win from the play-off zone. The team reached a success 5 times in 13 matches; herewith it’s worth noting their home victory over the strong Estonian club “Parnu Sadam” (73:59) and the road one over compatriots from “Liepaja” (91:88).

The undeniable leader of “Latvijas Universitate” is 22-year-old small forward Davids Viksne. Davids is the 8th shooter of the LEBL with 16.3points per match and the 6th league’s player in number of rebounds (on average 8.36 per match).

In the early September, “Prometey” and “Latvijas Universitate” played with each other at the start of pre-season preparation. The best Ukrainian club obtained a confident victory (108:72). However, there is no point in making far-reaching conclusions basing on this training game. Additionally, our team played in an experimental line-up.

Tomorrow, on December 10, “Prometey” definitely will face much more serious opponent’s resistance; however, our team’s fans have all right to hope for another victory of their favourites in the tournament.
