Tomorrow, on October 14, the women's team of Prometey will take part in the European Cups for the second time in its history, and for the second time it will start in the second women's European tournament - EuroCup Women, in its group stage. Last season, the group stage was held in one round in the format of bubbles and then our team failed to reach the playoffs, losing to two Hungarian teams "Atomeroma KSK Szekszard" and "Uni Gyor", as well as the Turkish "Kayseri".
In the summer of this year, the Hungarian "Uni Gyor" was chosen by the EuroCup selection as Prometey’s rival again. The paths of Victoria Bolshakova's team could also cross with either the Atomic KSK Seksard or the Kayseri. In September, old acquaintances of "Prometey" opposed each other, as well as the Romanian "Sepsi" in the Euroleague qualification. The team that was to take second place in this mini-tournament was then sent to Group "B" of EuroCup Women to "Prometey" and "Uni Gyor", and only the winner received a ticket to the Euroleague. It was obtained by "Atomeroma KSK Seksard", and the second place was taken by "Sepsi". The Romanians beat Kayseri by one point (79:78), but lost to Atomerom (56:63). The last vacancy in Group B of EwroCup Women was taken by the Turkish Elazig Il Ozel Idare, which beat the Greek PAOK in the Eurocup qualification (62:58).
"Sepsi" became the first rival of "Prometey" in the regular season of EuroCup Women. The club represents the small Romanian town of Sfintu-Gheorghe with a population of about 60,000 inhabitants and is a true leader in Romanian women's basketball in recent years. Moreover, the opponent of "Prometey", since the 2015/2016 season, only once did not become the champion of their country. For the last four seasons, Sepsi played in the EuroCup Women group stage and played most successfully in the last draw, when they took first place in their group, but lost in the quarterfinals to Italian "Venice".
In the current off-season, the Romanian champion was composed with a target to a decent performance in the Euroleague, but still could not get into the most prestigious women's European tournament. However, the Euroleague qualification games have already shown the strength of the Romanian club. "Any team that is able to defeat a representative of the Turkish Superleague in official competitions deserves only respect." - the head coach of "Prometey" Victoria Bolshakova considers. "We will face a serious opponent. Women's basketball in Romania is on the rise now, albeit not like in neighboring Hungary, but the level of the championship is growing, and Sepsi is the best team in their country."
The team's leaders include American legionnaires Brianna Fraser and Shakvedia Wallace, Serbian pointguard Maya Milkovic, center Nicoletta Orban, and a local player. At the same time, Brianna Fraser (height 190 cm) is a real shooter "Sepsi". In the match against "Atomerom" she scored exactly half of her team's points (28), and in the confrontation with the Turkish "Kayseri" - three more points!
Probably, tomorrow our team will face the most serious test of the season, which started recently. But at the same time, first of all, we must take into account the fact that "Prometey" has already passed the EuroCup hardening last season, and in the summer was completed with high-class legionnaires, so all people who are not indifferent to the team have all rights to expect the second performance in the EuroCup Women to be started with the necessary victory.
