Two years ago, or rather - on the last day of the second decade of October, "Prometey" held the most dramatic match of the 2019/2020 season at home with BC "Odessa". Our team proved to be stronger than its opponent only in the third overtime, and that victory was its sixth in a row after its debut in the Superleague, after which it lost 10 days away to "Cherkaski Mavpy". And here in today's confrontation with the Odessa club, but already on its platform, "Prometey" was destined to establish the new achievement: 7 matches without defeats from the start of the championship.
At the same time, the match in Odessa, as well as five days ago in Ternopil, turned out to be extremely difficult for the sole leader of the Windrose Superleague. This time the opponent of Ronen Ginzburg's team was in the lead only at the very beginning of the match, but did not allow any failed segments, as it happened on Sunday in the third quarter with the team of Dmytro Zabirchenko. The difficult confrontation for both opponents began with the fact that "Prometey" in the first three minutes handicapped five points (7:2), but the hosts took only half a minute to equalize the situation, and then they did it in the starting quarter three more times (!).
In the next 30 minutes, Oleg Yushkin's team repeatedly demonstrated their ability to hold the blow. The guests started the second ten minutes with a 7:0 jerk, but two accurate hits from the perimeter by Roman Novikov brought "Odessa" closer to the distance of only one similar throw - 21:24. At the same time, our team was clearly inferior to the hosts in the accuracy of three-point shots, making only 1 attempt out of 12 before the big break. Instead, Ron Ginzburg's wards suffered significantly fewer losses, and in addition clearly outperformed the opponent in the number of rebounds on the opponent’s backboard. Including due to these moments, they were constantly in the lead.
Albeit, only in the debut of the third quarter after the throw of DJ Stephens, the advantage of "Prometey" for the first time in the match reached an ambiguous mark - 41:31. However, before the last break, it became minimal (55:54), and the team from Odessa should thank their Latvian guard Toms Leimanis, who scored three times in a row at the end of the quarter from behind the arc.
But for the last ten minutes, "Odessa" was clearly exhausted, and in the decisive period of the game the champion of the country showed the highest class of its players. Oleg Yushkin does not have such a level of performers as D'Angelo Harrison, although the pointguard of “Odessa” Charles Kellison was noted due to his individual actions today. As for D'Angelo, our guard brought his team a few important points at the most necessary moment.
"Prometey" won with a score of 79:67, and on Sunday they will have another away match, this time with the “Khimik” from Yuzhne, which today was stronger than BC "Zaporizhzhia"
