BC "Prometey" player and one of the leaders of the Ukrainian National team Oleksandr Lypovyy, via his Instagram page, explained his absence at the National team gathering and reported the disappointing news about missing the European Championship.
"Hello everyone. Many people asked why I am not among the candidates for the Ukrainian National team. Unfortunately, I suffered a serious injury in the last game of the semi-finals of the German championship — tearing two ankle ligaments. The recovery period after this kind of injury is 4-8 weeks.
The recovery coincided with the dates of the training gathering of the National team and the coach made it clear that there would be no time to recover during the training process and I had to miss part of the training.
Therefore, it was decided to deal with this situation professionally and get ready for the new season. It's a shame, but most likely I have to miss my fifth EuroBasket in a row after overcoming a difficult qualification that lasted two years. I wish success to the boys at the European Championship and will cheer for the Ukrainian National team."
In the selection for EuroBasket, Lypovyy played in all 6 games, scoring 6.5 points + 4.0 rebounds + 2.2 assists in 21 minutes on the court.
