The traditional pre-season tournament, already the 11th, Vyacheslav Gavrilov Memorial tournament, paved the way for Prometey from the championship season to the following one, especially since it took place in its venue - the Palace of Sports "Yunist" in Zaporozhye where the historic for "red and white"s gold of the Super League was won. Some symbolism could be seen in the fact that the first match after a two-month break, although unofficial, "Prometey" as in the final series of the playoffs, played against the Valery Plekhanov’s team.
Today, however, they were "Kharkiv Sokoly". Both teams, “Sokoky” as well as "Prometey" certainly managed to show the Zaporozhye spectators high-quality basketball. There was a place for intrigue too. In the first quarter, none of the rivals managed to break away on the distance more than one three-point shot, although the team of Ronen Ginzburg succeeded to perform four of them (two - performed by DJ Stephens, one - Illia Sydorov and Chris Doe).
The first 4 minutes of the second quarter were under the dominance of Illia Sydorov as he scored 10 points at once, the precedence of "Prometey" was calculated by 7 points and this handicap was repeated several times and in the last minutes of the quarter even increased by one point. However, the "Sokoly" in the first half of the game just hit perfectly from the perimeter - 6 successful attempts out of 12, so they "stayed in the game."
In the third quarter, thanks to DJ Stephens' 5 points, Prometey crossed the "10+" mark for the first time in the match, but on the 24th minute after a hidden pass under the hoop from Michael Davis to Mikhail Nikitin, the handicap of the nominal guests melted to two points.
Prometey placed the final victorious accents in the second half of the third ten minutes and in the final quarter. Five minutes before the final siren after a long hit by the birthday boy Chris Dowe, the advantage of "Prometey" reached 16 points and our team calmly brought the case to a natural victory. "Prometey" surpassed the opponent in many statistical indicators: two-point and three-point throws, the number of rebounds (47 vs. 35) and assists (25 vs. 16).
Tomorrow "Prometey" is waiting for the second match within the framework of the Gavrilov Memorial tournament. The rival is MBC "Nikolaev".
