The quarterfinal stage of the Latvian-Estonian league Pafbet is going on. Three participants of the Final Four of the league has already been determined. These are “VEF Riga”, “Kalev/Cramo” and “Tartu Ulikool”. Tomorrow, on April 3, “Prometey” and “Viimsi/Sportland” will play for the last ticket to the semi-final. The winner of this confrontation, on April 7 at 16:00, will play in the first match of the Final Four against “Tartu Ulikool”.
In the three LEBL quarterfinal pairs, the teams with higher seeding number proved to be strongest ones. Even more, “Kalev/Cramo” and “VEF Riga” solved their tasks in two matches. It seemed that "Prometey" also would prove its higher class compared to its rival in two matches.
However, “Viimsi/Sportland” made almost the main sensation of the season. Estonian club managed to break the unique 33-match victorious streak of “Prometey”. “Viimsi” surpassed Ronen Ginzburg’s team in quality of the shots from the game, first of all three-pointers. Valdo Lips’ squad 15 times were accurate from the arc, having attacked out hoop for 41 times. “Prometey” made one attempt less – 40, but only 9 of them were successful. “Viimsi” in general was inferior in fight under the backboards, however, at the end of the regular time and in two overtimes, the players of Estonian team made several extra important offensive rebounds.
But still, “Prometey” remains the clear favourite of the quarterfinal confrontation. The potential of Ukrainian club is much higher than the rival has. Moreover, the series is coming back to Riga and it means, “Viimsi” will be deprived the factor of home arena.
