“Prometey” closed the programme of February’s official matches with a road confrontation against the current vice-champion of Estonia “Tartu Ulikool Maks& Moorits” within Latvian-Estonian league. The success of Ukrainian club in this confrontation meant that the second month in a row would consist of exceptionally victorious matches.
In the first round, Ronen Ginzburg’s team confidently surpassed their rival in Riga. Today’s match had nothing in common with October’s confrontation last year. It was difficult for “red and white” to come into game, first points were scored only in 3rd minute. The productiveness of the teams in the first five minutes (8 points by joint efforts for an even score of 4:4) could claim the anti-record of the current season. The rivals did not sparked in attack in the next 5-minute segment as well. At the same time, the quarter finished in favour of the hosts of the court 18:14. The first 10-minute segment turned out to be unique for “Prometey” as having made 8 rebounds in attack they did not convert them into scored points. The effectiveness was dramatically low: 29% accuracy of two-pointers and 25% of three-pointers.
The guests started finding their game only in the second quarter. They began to succeed in fast breaks, and in the 13th minute, after an accurate three-pointer by DJ Stephens, "Prometey" regained the lead after a long break (24:22). However, they did not manage to break away from the opponent. At the beginning of the last minute of the quarter, "Tartu Ulicool" took the lead - 35:34. But yet, "Prometey" went to the long breakin the status of a leader (41:38). It was due to just a crazy buzzer beater by Stephens!
The tense fighting on the court continued at the beginning of the third quarter. The teams took turns in leading; herewith, the productiveness of each team did not exceed 50%. The spurt of Ronen Ginzburg’s team 14:0 in the middle of the quarter changed the course of the game. Excellent defense created conditions for effective attack and the players of our team brilliantly used their chance. For the last break, the opponents went with “+13” in favour of “Prometey”. The intermediate result was completed with a second buzzer beater, this time by Illia Sydorov.
In the final 10-minute segment, Ukrainian club led the match to the victorious end, celebrating the 25th success in the league. “Prometey” went for almost two-week break, related to the official matches of the national teams, with great feelings.
