Within the nearest three weeks, “Prometey” will live thinking of the ending of the 7DAYS EuroCup regular season on top of the Group A tournament standing. Before an extra important home confrontation against French “Bourg” next Wednesday, the best club of Ukraine held a match of the Latvian-Estonian league Pafbet against “Latvijas Universitate”. For “red and white”, it was a road one just nominally as it took place on the court of the Olympic Centre Rimi in Riga. The absence of wasting time on transfer before the match against "Bourg" probably pleased the coaching staff of "Prometey".
However, the debut of this confrontation was not easy for our team. During the first 8 minutes, they scored only 10 points. The guests had a low productiveness in this game segment in both throws from the game and from the foul line (less than 50%). As a result, the starting quarter was left for “Latvijas Universitate”, although there was a gap of just one possession between the rivals – 19:17. In the 14th minute, “red and white” eventually hit from the perimeter (Gian Clavell) and it helped them to take the lead (24:21). However, Ronen Ginzburg’s squad did not manage to break away from their opponents. Even more, after the throw by Mezulis, “Latvijas Universitate” went for the long break in a status of the leader, with a minimal handicap though (33:32).
After 15-minute break, “Prometey” finally started making three-point shots (within the first 20 minutes, only 1 attempt out of 15(!) was successful). In the 24th minute, after an excellent individual drive by Clavell, the guests managed to break away from the opponents by 6 points (44:38), and doubled their handicap at the beginning of the final quarter.
“Prometey” set up a clear dominance on the court and brought the game to a victorious end. Already next Wednesday, on March 15, our team will hold a home 7DAYS EuroCup confrontation against French “Bourg”.
