Until today, the victory of “Prometey” over “Ogre” with the score 109:56 in the premier match of the Latvian-Estonian league was one of the biggest for our team in this tournament. Today the clubs played the game from the programme of the second round on the court of the best Ukrainian club’s opponent. It was hardly possible to expect in this confrontation the lightness like it was in the performance of “red and whith” in the early October. A road status of the match and the fact that “Prometey” has not defeated its rivals with a devastating score for a long time stated about it.
The confrontation, as expected, had no similarity with the October’s match of the teams. Only in the first half of the game, precisely in the second 5-minute segment of the starting quarter, it might seem that “Prometey” would not have any problems. The first 5-minute segment ended with an advantage of the guests by one possession (14:12), but then “red and white” arranged a powerful spurt 18:6. DJ Stephens, Ivan Tkachenko and Illia Sydorov highlighted from the perimeter, also players of “Ogre” could not do much with the fast drives by Issuf Sanon.
The teams went for a long break with “+14” in favour of “Prometey”, and after the rest the hosts significantly improved their play. On the regular base, they sparkled with both three-point shots and attacks that effectively ended from mid distance and from our “paint”. As for “Prometey”, during 6 first minutes of the quarter, they recorded to their assets only 4 points. In 26th minute, there was just one point between the teams (57:56), however, before the last break, “red and white” turned back to the mark “10+” of their advantage. In the last 4 minutes, quick transitions from defense to offensive actions and fight under the opponent’s board especially worked for the guests.
One more local success did not secure victory for “Prometey”. The game continued keeping fans of both teams under pressure. The rivals entered the last 5-minute segment with just a three-point advantage of Ronen Ginzburg’s team. At the decisive moment of the game, the higher class of the guests showed itself again. Oleksandr Lypovyy hit from the perimeter, DJ Kennedy reminded everyone his skill to drive effectively to the hoop and Gian Clavell made needed steal during one of the “Ogre” attacks.
“Prometey” won with the score 86:79 and on Wednesday, they await much harder road confrontation. Within 7DAYS EuroCup, our team will play against Italian “Reyer Venice”.
