On Wednesday, with the match against Italian “Germani Brescia”, “Prometey” started an important three-game series against the teams from the top part of the 7DAYS EuroCup tournament standings. Every weekend between these matches will be dedicated to our team’s matches within the Latvian-Estonian league. Today, “red and white” hosted Estonian club “AVIS UTILITAS Rapla”, with which they did not have any problems in the first round match.
Although in this confrontation, the opponent made a very decent resistance to the best club of Ukraine. In the match debut, “Rapla” was not confused with a high-speed pace offered by “Prometey”. Both teams scored a lot in quick attacks and successfully hit from the perimeter (63% of accurate three-point shots in the first 10-minute segment by “Prometey” and 50% by “Rapla”). The teams went for the first break with an advantage of our team by just 4 points.
In the second quarter, “Prometey” hit the opponent’s hoop for the first time only in the 14th minute, when Viacheslav Petrov excellently played individually in opponent’s three-second zone. During this game segment, “red and white” acted quite messy in offense making a large number of losses (10 to 5 by the opponent). Before the long break, our team did not manage to create a comfort gap despite the fact that this 10-minute segment also finished in favour of Ronen Ginzburg’s team.
After the 15-minute break, the coach of “red and white” released a “light” five on the court. And it was them who managed to set a handicap in this match at the mark of “10+” (Denys Lukashov hit both free throws). However, the rival kept “staying in the game”. After an accurate throw by Valb in the 33th minute, “Rapla” was behind by 6 points (65:71). But still, our team managed to save the advantage and led the game to the victorious end.
“Prometey” will play the next match on January 25, within 7DAYS EuroCup. In the Turkish city of Bursa, they will play with the local “Frutti Bursaspor”.
