In the first semi-final match of the Latvian-Estonian league Pafbet, “Prometey” played against Estonian club “Tartu Ulikool”. Exactly in this confrontation, unlike the one in the evening, there was a clear favourite - the best team of Ukraine. However, before this game the personnel problems of the LEBL regular season winner only got to worse: in addition to DJ Kennedy and Kaleb Agada, DJ Stephens also was not able to help his team. This circumstance raised the chances of the opponent, who witnessed the worthy resistance of their compatriots from “Viimsi/Sportland” to “Prometey”.
Nevertheless, the debut of the match was for “Prometey”. In 4th minute “red and white” led 8:2 and forced the coach of “Tartu Ulikool” Nikolajs Mazurs to take a time-out. This break benefited the nominal guests and they reduced their lag to minimum (12:13), however, thanks to the productiveness of Ivan Tkachenko and Viacheslav Petrov (an accurate three-pointer) “Prometey” reached “+6” again and finished the first quarter with this handicap.
The coaching staff of our team should have been satisfied with the actions of their players in defence. The same situation continued after the first break. With their aggressive actions under their hoop, "red and white" put their opponents in a dead end. Almost perfect defensive actions contributed to the fact that in the first five minutes of the second quarter, the "titans" missed just 6 points, and in the next 5-minute segment even less - only 5. It was absolutely naturally that in the 13th minute, the advantage of our team reached the mark. “10+" (26:15). Unfortunately, in the second quarter, two problems at once, related to player injuries, occurred in front of "Prometey". Gian Clavell and Denys Lukashov was able to leave the court only with the help of their teammates. However, yet before the big break, the handicap of Ukrainian club increased to two dozen points.
Gian Clavell turned back to the court after 15-minute break and with him “Prometey” continued its dominance. Our team played unleashed, continuing playing reliably in defence and, sometimes, very effectively in offence. For example, James Dickey finished two alley-oops at once.
Long before the final siren, “Prometey” solved the issue of the winner of this game. Already tomorrow, on April 8 at 17:00, Ukrainian club will play the final match of the LEBL. Their opponent will be determined in the confrontation of “Kalev/Cramo” and “VEF Riga”.
