The 3rd tour of the 7DAYS EuroCup, the day before, opened with a confrontation between the Romanian “Cluj Napoca” and the Italian “Venezia”. The Italian club obtained a road victory 85:80, after which only one team in the group, “Cedevita” from Slovenia, left with zero in the “Wins” column. With this density of team achievements, considering a very long distance of the group stage of the EuroCup, any fail is not vital. However, in any case, it’s always difficult to catch up after losses. From this view, “Prometey” needed a positive result after the “shock therapy” in Italian Brescia.
The Turkish club “Frutti Extra Bursaspor” came to visit our team having a wonderful victory streak of 6-0 at the start of the season. The debut of today’s confrontation, before which our players were greeted by Ukrainian children, who came to see the match, was successful for the rivals of Ronen Ginzburg’s guys. After three and a half minutes, the scoreboard showed 13:5 in favour of “Bursaspor”, and only three players of their roster hit the “red and white” rim. Ahmad Duverioglu scored 5 points, Onuralp Bitim and Derek Needham scored 4 points each. “Prometey” responded to their opponents in the second 5-minute segment with a spurt of 8:0. Gian Clavell held just amazing starting 10-minute segment (11 points and 9 of them are shots from the perimeter). His efforts were supported by Issuf Sanon and Caleb Agada with their excellent individual actions. Our team broke ahead, but in the last attack, all of a sudden, Agada lost the ball, and the opponent, in a quick rush, reduced the gap to one possession – 21:23.
After a two-minute break, The Turkish club succeeded in three-point shots (Bitim, Needham), due to which they took the lead back, however, “red and white” did not let Turks escape far ahead. The quarter turned out to be quite nervous. Our players spent the last minute just brilliantly. First, they made two offensive rebounds, then, three-pointer by Oleksandr Lypovyy and after that, Caleb Agada managed an individual pass over, as a result, “+6” in favour of “Prometey”. But right before the long break, Derek Needham realised a three point shot and again there was a gap of one possession between the teams.
After a fifteen minute of rest, “Prometey” made the opponent’s leaders extremely nervous. Derek Needham got the fourth foul at the start of the third quarter; in addition, the rudeness of Jordanian center of “Bursaspor” Ahmet Duverioglu put a cross on his participation in the match. In 25th minute, Dustin Hogue for the first time in this match set a handicap of “Prometey” at the mark of “10+” (54:43). The players of “Bursaspor” could not cope with Issuf Sanon’s passes to the right side. Instead, our opponent managed not to notice the loss of Duverioglu due to the powerful play of Dudzinski and Saybir under the boards. It helped our rivals to go for the last break with real chances for victory – 62:68.
In the last 10-mninute segment, “Prometey” looked fresher than the team of Dushan Alimpijevic. Opponents gained points with noticeable difficulties. As for our team, Gian Clavell, as well as in the debut of confrontation, was just “on fire” (26 points). Ronen Ginzburg’s squad confidently controlled the game until the last minute, when the opponent tried to stick on their chances in this match with a jerk of 8:0. However, it was extremely difficult to regain 6 more points in 24 seconds. “Bursaspor” used tactical fouls, but Illia Sydorov and Caleb Agada, with accurate shots from the free throw line, recorded such a needed for our team victory – 90:84!
“Prometey” turned back to victorious way in the 7DAYS EuroCup, and already ob October 29, will hold a home match within the LEBL against the Estonian club “Tartu Ulikool Maks and Moorits”
