For the second week in a row, "Prometey" played a BKT EuroCup playoff match, the result of which either gave one of the opponents a berth to the next round, or meant the end of performances in the tournament. This time, the "titans" faced a much more powerful rival, who twice beat their previous opponent, the Greek "Aris", in the group round. At that, Ronen Ginzburg's team had to fight for the berth to the semi-finals in an away match today.
The debut of the match happened to be far from perfect for both teams. They made mistakes quite a lot, and in particular, this was especially true of the "titans". This factor allowed "Bourg" to lead 8:3 in the 4th minute. In response, Ronen Ginzburg's team did not allow the opponent to run away to a more comfortable distance. Oleksandr Lypovyy and, as usual, Ondrej Balvin came into game pretty well from the bench. Ronald March had a productive first quarter - 7 points. He put an end to the quarter with a spectacular three-point throw from 9 meters - 17:17.
In the debut of the second ten-minute segment, the players of "Bourg" made four consecutive (!) shots from outside the perimeter - the French team confirmed that it has all reasons to be considered a "shooting" one. This "explosion" allowed "Bourg" to get further by 8 points - 29:21. However, like in the first quarter, the guests extinguished the rival’s activity quite quickly. In the 17th minute, Ivan Tkachenko made a well-timed three-point shot to tie the score at 33:33. Before the long break, "Bourg" managed to create a small gap again, but the "titans" almost caught up with them, going for the break, giving in by only one point - 44:45.
The first five minutes of the N3 quarter were played according to the "Bourg" scenario. For the first time in the match, the handicap of Federic Fauthoux's squad reached double-digit - 61:51. The players of the French team looked great in defence in this part of the game. In the third ten-minute segment "Prometey" was in a hot water: in the last quarter, "red-and-white" had to play back 22 points at once, so, to create a real miracle.
Some hope appeared two minutes before the final buzzer, when Gian Clavell hit a long-range shot, after which the lag of “Prometey” reduced to 11 points. However, "Bourg" players predictably began to play "by the clock". This tactic proved to be successful: the French club maintained its advantage and is now advancing to the semi-finals. For “Prometey”, the BKT EuroCup season is over.
