For the second week in a row, before the important match of the 7DAYS EuroCup, "Prometey" played with the rival in the Latvian-Estonian league Pafbet, who was not in the ten strongest teams of the league at the moment of the confrontation. Last Saturday, the "red and white" had no problems with Estonian "TalTech/OPTIBET", and today they hosted the "Latvijas Universitate", which lost to "TalTech" three days ago with a difference of 17 points.
This confrontation turned out to be very similar for our team to the previous one in the LEBL. As well as a week ago, “Prometey” simply did not notice the rival during the starting quarter. In the debut of the match, the guests were in lead 5:0, but then they got frozen at this point of productiveness in the quarter. “Red ans white” made an impressive spurt 26:0, after which it became absolutely clear that only something extraordinary could prevent them from winning today. DJ Kennedy, Denys Lukashov, Illia Sydorov were effective in drives. Illia, who is finally back to the main line-up, sparkled with two hits from the arc and an advantage of our team on the backboards was huge – we made two dozen rebounds more than our rival did within 20 minutes.
However, the opponent did not let our team far away in the score in the second quarter. After a long break, “Latvijas Universitate” adjusted to the hosts’ game at all and managed to get closer to them at a distance of 14 points. The team of Gunars Gailitis successfully attacked “Prometey’s” hoop from the perimeter. During almost entire game the percentage of accuracy in three-point shots of “Latvijas Universitate” was “40+”, and the team guard Pauls Miglinieks realised 4 attempts out of 6 in the first three quarters.
“Prometey” reached the milestone of “+25” already in the final 5-minute segment. However, could not hold on at this point. Young ambitious team managed to reduce their lag for the second time in the match, but this its local success could not affect the victorious result for “Prometey”.
Our team won with the score of 94:76 and with nice feelings will start a preparation for the home match of the 7DAYS EuroCup against the best club of Romania “Cluj Napoca”, which will take place next Tuesday, on December 14.
