The final and most important segment of the season started for “Prometey” with today’s confrontation with Estonian club “Viimsi/Sportland” within quarterfinal play-off stage of the Latvian-Estonian league Pafbet. With a rare exception (today and next Wednesday in the confrontation with Italian Reyer Venice), each failure in it may have fatal result in the form of suspension of the team's participation in one of the two main tournaments of the season.
However, by and large today, Ukrainian club had every reason to continue its incredible unbeaten streak of 31 matches in a row. A claim for another victory was made by the team in a debut of confrontation. Already in the 6th minute, the handicap of “Prometey” reached a double-digit mark (19:9). Ronen Ginzburg’s team had a huge advantage over the rival in the fight under the backboards, having more rebounds on the opponent’s side than the opponent on their own one. The guests did not cope with the speed of “red and white”. Three dozens of missed by “Viimsi” points in the starting quarter evidenced that.
In the second ten-minute segment, Estonian club more or less adjusted to “Prometey” actions, slightly reducing their lag and leaving the quarter for them. But the main occasion of the quarter, very unpleasant for our team, was DJ Kennedy’s injury, that one of the leaders of our team got in a contact fight with the opponent. American legionnaire of “Prometey” did not continue the game, although, after 15-minute break, was in a good temper in the company of his teammates on the replacement bench.
The guests kept intrigue in the match for quite a long time. They caught up with “Prometey” in number of rebounds and percentage of accurate shots from the game. However, the game remained under our team’s control. “Prometey” confidently brought the match to the victorious end and led 1:0 in the quarterfinal series.
The second confrontation of the teams will take place on April 1 in Estonian Viimsi.
