As known, on July 28, the National team of Ukraine started preparing for the qualification matches for the 2023 World Cup and EuroBasket 2022. Currently, four Prometey basketball players are training in the national team camp - Lukashov, Sanon, Sidorov and Tkachenko. Gathering is going on in Riga, where the National team will play their next "home" game on August 24 against Italy. Then, on August 27, they will play on the road against Iceland, and on September 2 they will start at EuroBasket.
We suggest recalling how the representatives of "Prometey" have played as part of the National team of Ukraine during their career.
Denys Lukashov
54 games for the National team of Ukraine (6.6 points, 3 rebounds, 3.2 assists, RE 9.1)
33-year-old Lukashov has been in the national team since the beginning of qualifying for EuroBasket 2009. Ukraine did not qualify for that tournament. And two years later, Denys took part in the selection for EuroBasket 2011, where he performed later, bringing the team 4.2 points, 1.6 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game. Our point guard did not participate in EuroBasket 2013 and the World Championship 2014.
Ukraine played the group stage of the 2015 European Championship at Arena Riga, where "Prometey" will hold home matches of the EuroCup. Denys averaged 3.2 points, 1.2 rebounds and 2 assists per game. Then there were the qualification matches for EuroBasket 2017, where the Lukashov's statistics were 10.7 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.7 assists and an incredible 65% three-pointers (13 out of 20)! At the championship of the continent itself, the point guard of the Ukrainian National team scored 7.2 points, 3.8 rebounds and 5.5 assists.
In ten qualification matches for the 2019 World Cup, Lukashov had 5.7 points, 3.3 rebounds and 4.4 assists. In the selection for EuroBasket 2022, Denys played four matches (7 points, 3.3 rebounds, 4.8 assists). In five qualification games for the 2023 World Cup, he scored 7 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists.
Issuf Sanon
11 games (5.4 points, 2 rebounds, 2.3 assists, RE 6.2)
He debuted as part of the National team during the qualification for the 2019 World Cup, in the three played matches he brought 6 points, 0.7 rebounds and 1.3 assists. In the selection for EuroBasket 2022, he had statistics of 4.8 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists. And in four qualification matches for the 2023 WC, he scored 5.5 points, 1.8 rebounds and 4 assists!
Illia Sydorov
6 games (7 points, 1.3 rebounds, 2.2 assists, RE 5)
He debuted in the Ukrainian National team in the qualification for the 2023 World Cup, played in all six qualification games. In the first official match for the National team, in November of the last year, Illia scored 9 points against the Georgian team. The most successful for him was the second match - against North Macedonia, where Sydorov helped the national team with 13 points and 4 assists.
Ivan Tkachenko
4 games for the national team of Ukraine (6.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, 0.8 assists, RE 7)
Also, a recent debutant for the national team. And we cannot fail to note that Tkachenko's debut was surprisingly successful, pleasantly surprising many experts. We don’t mention Ivan's first game for the National team on February 24, 2022, as it is clear in what psychological state the guys stepped to the court that evening. However, after a powerful game right in the first match of the National team in July, Tkachenko made people talk about him as the future main player of the National team (to 9 points in the basket of Georgia, he added 5 rebounds and had RE 9). Ivan scored 10 points (2/3 three-pointers) and intercepted the ball three times in the game with the current world champions, the Spaniards.
