The last match of “Prometey” in 2023 and the first one in 2024 were separated just by two days. The game calendar of the “titans” in the first decade of January completely suits the scheme “from simple to difficult”: two confrontations with underdogs of the Latvian-Estonian league, then – a road clash wiith its leader “Kalev/Cramo” and, finally, a challenging test by the BKT EuroCup Group A leader “Paris Basketball” in the capital of France.
This series of games was opened by a confrontation with "Latvian University". Less than a month ago, in the match of the first tour, the Ukrainian club did not experience any problems with the opponent. Today, "Prometey" gathered the second win over this team in the season series - 81:47. However, the young squad of "Latvian University" looked much more attrective than in December.
In particular, this was true for the debut of the match. "Latvian University" won the first five-minute (9:6) due to three successful long-range offensives out of five in this game segment. As for "Prometey", within the first seven minutes, only Ondrej Balvin brought points to the team (8 points, which were complemented by 5 rebounds at once). Later, Issuf Sanon supported him with own performance, in addition, at the end of the opening quarter, after a signature steal and a productive breakaway by Caleb Agada, the “titans” had a one-possession advantage (16:13) at the end of the opening quarter.
In the second ten-minute segment, “Prometey” started succeeding in the offensives from the perimeter (four three-point hits at once, two of which are by Oleksandr Lypovyy). In the second half of the quarter, handicap of our team reached the mark of “10+” for the first time.
After a long break, the nominal hosts of the court demonstrated perfect defence not allowing the opponent to score any points within the first five minutes of the quarter N3. Handicap of “Prometey” reached two dozen points quite quickly and, by and large, everything became clear in this confrontation.
“Prometey” confidently dominated in the final quarter driving the game to a winning end. Today, Ondrej Balvin stood out with his individual achievements – 18 points + 6 rebounds and 25 poinbts of Efficiency rating.
Now, our team is awaited a trip to the capital of Estonia: on January 5 and 6, two matches will be held there. The rivals – “Tallinn Kalev/SNABB” and “Kalev/Cramo”.
