Already tomorrow, on September 30, at its home court at Arena Riga in the capital of Latvia, “Prometey” will open its programme of the 2023/2024 season with a match against Estonian club “Viimsi”.

This year, our team will defend the championship title of the Latvian-Estonian basketball league. Last season, on the way to this title, Prometey, in the playoffs quarterfinal series with a score of 2:1, downed exactly Viimsi, the club from the town of the same name with the population of a bit more than 20 thousands people.

The nearest Prometey’s opponent has been performing in the elite KML league of its own country and the LEBL for just the third season. In both leagues, the team did not just make a scene. For example, in the 2021/2022 season, Viimsi reached the final. However, there was no fight there: Estonian club lost to VEF Riga in all regards – 65:94. Last season, Viimsi sat in 4th place in its country’s championship. The series against Parnu Sadam was a fierce one: Viimsi lost it with a score of 2:3.

Tomorrow’s Prometey rival, who has signed Ukrainian players Artem Kovaliov and Illia Lishchyna, opened the new season last Saturday with a home defeat from Keila – 72:90. However, there is no doubt that Prometey will be a good stimulus for Viimsi and festive atmosphere at Arena Riga will facilitate both opponents to show a high-quality fan-to-watch game.
