For the first time this season, “Prometey” played the official match without serious tournament motivation. However, we could hardly doubt that the winner of the regular championship of the Latvian-Estonian league will responsibly approach the road match against Latvian “Liepaja”. Our team has acquired such conditions, which just must be kept in the final part of the season – for sure, this point is now clearly understood in "Prometey".
The course of entire confrontation has demonstrated that Ukrainian club treated its opponent, who also was not under pressure of match result, with proper respect. It helped “Liepaja” demonstrate basketball of a good quality. They looked good at the beginning of the confrontation. The hosts of the court led in score twice in 4th minute (8:6, 10:8), however later, within three minutes, “red and white” organised a spurt 12:0. In this game segment, Illia Sydorov distinguished twice from a long distance. At the same time, other our players missed a lot from the arc in the starting quarter. Instead, they surpassed their rivals in number of rebounds and assists (8 against 4 and 10 against 5). This dominance allowed our team to go for the first break with a handicap “10+” (26:15).
Balls “flew” from the perimeter already in the debut of the second ten-minute segment (Issuf Sanon and Gian Clavell twice). After the hit by our Puerto-Rican legionnaire in 14th minute, “Prometey” broke away from the opponent by 15 points (40:25). To the credit of “Liepaja” players, they did not fall apart and several times reduced their lag to 6 points. The intrigue of the match was kept.
In the third quarter, the hosts of the court were not able to cope with the speed of “red and white”. Ronen Ginzburg’s players acted effectively in the transitional offense and after three-pointer by Ivan Tkachenko in 28th minute their handicap reached 22 points (69:47). Even befor the last break, “Prometey” practically “closed” the game and led it to the final siren.
Next Wednesday, on March 8, our team will hold a responsible road 7DAYS EuroCup confrontation with the club “Ratiopharm Ulm” from Germany.
