A road match of “Prometey” against Estonian “Viimsi/Sportland” could already today bring our team to the Final four of the Latvian-Estonian league Pafbet. This achievement has already been reached by Latvian club “VEF Riga”. Theoretically, “Prometey”, “Kalev/Cramo” and the winner of the match “Tartu Ulikool” – “Ventspils” could join them.
Ukrainian club was a clear favourite in its confrontation, however, in upcoming matches “red and white” will have to play without two most effective players in the EuroCup season – Caleb Agada and DJ Kennedy. This circumstance considerably raised the chances of “Prometey” rival.
In a debut of the match, the teams attacked a lot and effectively from the arc. First 12 points were scored in this way. After guests diversified their offensive actions and started scoring from the opponent’s “paint”, it affected their leadership straight away. However, the hosts did not let “Prometey” far ahead due to accurate three-point shots (58% in first 7 minutes). Even more, hundred seconds before the end of the starting quarter, after and-one by Toppin, “Viimsi” took the lead 24:23. The hosts managed to leave the first ten-minute segment for them – 27:25.
In the debut of the second quarter, handicap of Valdo Lips’ team reached 5 points. They were in lead almost all quarter long and went for a long break still with “+5” in their favour. "Vijmsi" players caught a real courage and in the 29th minute, after two accurate free throws by Zakis, they reached their maximum handicap in the match of 11 points (72:61). However, for the last break, the teams went for "-6" for "Prometey".
“Red and white” managed to catch up with the opponent only 17 minutes before the end of the regulation time, when Ondrej Balvin came to the foul line. However, the second throw “for victory” was not accurate.
The game turned to overtime, which did not determine the winner. With a draw of 100:100, the opponents had to play another 5-minute segment. The culmination of the entire match fell to the last minute of the second overtime. 55 seconds before the final siren, "Viimsi" went ahead by 4 points (107:103). After 11 seconds, Gian Clavell (33 points and 10 assists in the match) got the right to three free throws. Gian made the first two attempts, after which American legionnaire "Viimsi" Toppin made the decisive rebound in the match.
Estonian club won with the score of 107:105 and levelled the score in the series. The holder of the ticket to the semi-final will be determined on April 3, in the third match in Riga.
