The 11 tour of the 7DAYS EuroCup in Group A opened the day before with two matches. Following their results, French “Bourg” with 8 wins kept the leadership in the group; minimal victory of Spanish “Joventut” over Turkish “Frutti Bursaspor” (83:82) put them in second position of the tournament standings. Today’s success of “Prometey” in the confrontation against Italian “Germani Brescia” allowed our team to get into the first three, but in case of the win with “20+” points differential, they could overtake “Joventut”.
The best club of Ukraine had to solve the first part of this task in a competition with a very serious team. The match preceded with a minute of silence in memory of people who perished in Dnipro and Brovary. In the debut of confrontation, both teams succeeded in defense actions. At the same time, the hosts were better in the attacks from the perimeter (Clavell, Stephens). Within five minutes, the teams scored only 17 points, but herewith, “Prometey” recorded 10 points to its asset. Entire starting quarter turned out to be poor – 19:15 in favour of Italian club.
Not everything worked for the opponents in the second 10-minute segment. But the players of “Brescia” started hitting from the arc. This component, at some stage, allowed them to break away from “red and white” by 7 points (31:24). Our team’s lag slightly reduced (31:35) when, practically together with a final siren, Ondrej Balvin hit one of the free throws after Gabriel’s foul.
During the long break, it was possible to recall how "Prometey" managed to significantly strengthen its game in the third quarter of the December match against another Italian club - "Reyer Venice". To some extent, the story was repeated. Caleb Agada, Issuf Sanon and Giann Clavell boldly took charge of the game and mostly due to their effective passes, "Prometey" took the lead back. The guests managed to do the same during the quarter. The teams went for the last break with the minimal advantage of the guests (53:52).
In the final 10-minute segment, “Prometey” at last found needed balance between attack and defense. DJ Kennedy excellently demonstrated his best qualities at the most needed moment; and then, in 34th minute, after Sanon’s hit from the perimeter, “Prometey” was ahead by 8 points (66:58). Our players successfully engaged Ondrej Balvin in the opponents’ “paint”. This is also helped to snatch so important victory, which allowed to sit in third place in Group A.
