Four tours before 7DAYS EuroCup regular season finishes, two clubs of Group A, our “Prometey” and Spanish “Joventut”, secured a place in the play-off. Six teams that are ranked from 3 to 8 places are very likely to join them as they are ahead of Romanian “Cluj-Napoca” by 3-4 wins. The main task for the first eight clubs for the upcoming matches is to improve their tournament situation. A high position can simultaneously give the right to play against a more or less acceptable opponent in the 1/8 finals and get the advantage of the own arena at least at this stage.
Today, it was the exact primary task for our “Prometey” and their rival – “Ratiopharm Ulm” from Germany. At the same time, Ukrainian club could take revenge for the defeat in the first round. However, since the confrontation of these teams at the end of November, the opponent has definitely become stronger, strengthened by two players of a good quality – Brandon Paul and Bruno Caboclo.
It was Bruno Caboclo, who opened the score at the end of 2nd minute and DJ Stephens answered to this by an accurate three-point shot. Four minutes later, the hosts of the court managed to reach a handicap of 9 points (14:5), but this activity was levelled by a spurt of “red and white” 7:0. The game continued to be dynamic and spectacular. The minimal advantage of "Ulm" (21:20) at the end of the first quarter fully reflected what was happening on the court.
At the beginning of the second ten-minute segment, “Prometey” exploded with a 6:0 jerk. This time, German club had to solve the task how not to let their rival go far ahead. “Ulm” successfully coped with it thanks to Tomas Klepisz's accuratye attacks from the perimeter. In the 16th minute, "Ulm" generally regained the lead, but it turned out to be temporary. The teams went to the 15-minute break with a minimal advantage of the guests (40:39).
In the third quarter, the teams could not distinguish during two minutes. Then, Ronen Ginzburg’s team successfully forced opponents to make mistakes, and their handicap reached 9 points. “Ulm” did not give up and reduced their lag to one possession (54:57) due to Brazilian Dos Santos’ efforts. However, the last word in this quarter left for “Prometey”: 4 points by DJ Kennedy set up the handicap of his team at “+8” mark.
In the last ten-minute segment, after a shot by Ondrej Balvin, the advantage of our team reached two-digit mark – 71:61. Ukrainian club continued keeping the game under control and led it to the 11th victory in the tournament, although the opponent created some problems reducing their lag to 3 points. However, DJ Kennedy “closed” the game with an accurate three-point shot.
