On November 30 and February 8, BC “Prometey” will host “Ulm” and “Cedevita” respectively not at Arena Riga, which won’t be available, but at the biggest in the Baltic countries indoor arena in the city of Kaunas.
Arena in the New City of Kaunas, on the island of the Nyamunas River, is a home hall of the legendary basketball club “Zalgiris”.
The Arena was built on the eve of the EuroBasket 2011. The official opening took place on August 18 of the same year with a friendly basketball match between national teams of Lithuania and Spain.
Between September 14 and 18, 2011, play-off matches of the European Basketball Championship were held at “Zalgiris-Arena”.
Between April 22 and 28, 2018, the arena hosted matches of the Division I, Group B of the Ice Hockey World Championship; and in autumn of 2021, the Mini-Football World championship.
During basketball games, the arena can accommodate a maximum of 15450 spectators. And on the eve of almost each home tour of the Euroleague, Zalgiris Arena is sold out. BC “Zalgiris” and Zalgiris Arena had the highest average attendance in the Euroleague in the 2011-12, 2012-13, 2017-18, 2018-19, 2019-20, 2020-21 seasons. On January 6 2016, the general managers of the Euroleague clubs recognised Zalgiris Arena the best arena of the tournament.
Given that basketball is a religion in Lithuania, Zalgiris Arena is a real Mecca for basketball fans, Basketball temple. In the hall, there is a museum of the numerous of “Zalgiris” trophies. And, for example, in spring after the play-off matches of the Lithuanian championship, it was possible to stay in the plenty of arena bars to watch Euroleague together with the same basketball fans.
However, not only basketball stars play on the arena, but also music stars. Since the opening, many concerts were held on the Zalgiris Arena: Red Hot Chili Pappers, Lenny Kravetz, Elton John, Rammstein, Hurts and others.
Even motocross can be held there! Night of the Jumps took place at Zalgiris Arena in March 2013. This event was part of a World tour.
