Tomorrow, on December 27, at Arena Riga, “Prometey” plays its last in 2023 EuroCup match .
The year, which in several days will become a history, happened to be happy for our team. In spring, it repeated the best achievement of the Ukrainian clubs in the EuroCup having reached the semi-final of the tournament. Before this year, only “Budivelnyk” Kyiv could boast of the similar accomplishment.
In the 2023/2024 season, the “titans” is still in 6th place in Group A win an excellent prospective to make it to the playoffs. Their opponent in the upcoming match, Slovenian “Cedevita-Olimpija” is the only of 20 EuroCup teams that is still winless so far.
Just based on this fact alone, the role of tomorrow’s match favourite can be assigned to “Prometey”. However, the Slovenian club should not be underestimated. It worth noting that “Cedevita-Olimpija” lost 9 out of 12 of its unfortunate matches with a deficit of less than 10 points. It suggests that tomorrow’s rival of Ronen Ginzburg’s team is able to impose the opponent quite a competitive fighting in almost each match.
“Cedevita-Olimpija” has obvious playing abilities. For instance, it is the third EuroCup team in terms of the overall number of rebounds (our “Prometey” is the best one in this component) and the second one in terms of rebounds on the own backboard. Certain players stands out in the roster of “Cedevita-Olimpija”. For example, the player of the Slovenian National team Klemen Prepelic, in his six matches, gave his teammate on average 8.7 assists and reached the mark “10+” in this regard three times(!). The American guard of “Cedevita-Olimpija” Justin Cobbs is a real shooter. In his 9 matches played, his accuracy from the perimeter was 53.3%.
For sure, tomorrow’s match is not going to be easy for our team. However, it has every reason to go for the two-week tournament break in a good humour.
