Tomorrow, on December 6, “Prometey” will play its next duel in the regular championship of the 7DAYS EuroCup. In the French city of Bourg (the population is about 70 000 residents), it will play with a club of the same name. This match cannot be named the ordinary one at least because of two reasons. At first, it will be the first EuroCup confrontation in the history of our team with the representative of France, one of the leading basketball countries in Europe. Secondly, “Pometey” will compete with the sole leader of the EuroCup Group A.
A team of the local specialist Frederic Fauthoux is writing its own history right now, at least in the EuroCup (In the French championship they are sitting in 5th place having 7 wins in 11 matches). “Bourg” participates in the tournament for the third time; in the previous two seasons, they did not achieve any success. In the 2020/2021 season, they made it to the second group stage, but lost all 6 matches there, and in the last Eurocup, they could not even make it to the top eight clubs in their group in order to participate in the playoffs.
This season, French club turned better significantly. The team obtained 5 wins in 6 matches; even though the final advantage of French club reached “10+” only in the confrontation with Lithuanian “Lietkabelis”. It is worth respect that the team turned out to be stronger than two abuser of “Prometey” – Italian “Brescia” and Spansh “Joventut” (this success was celebrated in the previous tour in Badalona).
Today’s success of “Bourg” might be related to the excellent formation of the team for this season. Three newbies at once – Americans James Palmer and Jordan Floyd as well as Canadian Isaiah Mike became the real leaders of the team. Herewith, the guard Floyd and number three Palmer are the most productive “Bourg” players. Overall, the opponent of “Prometey can be considered as a shooter team. In most EuroCup Matches, the team reached 40 and more percent of the accurate three-point shots. “Prometey” had quite considerable problems with such opponents in the previous matches of the tournament. However, “Bourg” was significantly inferior to some opponents, e.g. “Bursaspor”, in the fight on the backboards.
Despite the fact that the French club started the season in the 7DAYS EuroCup just brilliantly, they cannot be named the unvulnarable ones in terms of game point of view. Let's hope that "Prometey" will manage to impose the opponent their own game and with a road victory will improve its tournament affairs, which worsened after the sad defeat from "Ratiopharm Ulm".
