After the two-week break finishes, which was due to the national teams’ participation in the selection for the WC-2023, “Prometey” will resume playing in the Latvian-Estonian league with two confrontations at once: on November 18 and 19. Both matches will take place in the capital city of Estonia Tallinn. First, our team will play with BC “Tallinn Kalev/Audentes” and then with BC “Kalev/Cramo”.

In May 2008, the former club “Pirita” got an agreement with the Tallinn branch of the Estonian Sports Society "Kalev" that gave the club right to play under the name “Tallinn Kalev” starting with the 2008/2009 season. The highest achievement of the nearest “Prometey” opponent in the Estonian championships is silver medals in the 2018/2019 season. In the final series of that championship, “Tallinn Kalev” lost to “Kalev/Cramo” with the score of 0:3. The rival of “Prometey” did not get higher than 10th place. In the ongoing season they also do not impress with their results, sitting in 13th place with 2 wins in 7 matches, just 3 wins behind the playoff zone.

The roster of “Tallinn Kalev” fully consists of Estonian players. In the team of the local coach Rauno Pecki we can single out 40-year-old center Kristjan Kangur and 33-year-old point guard Sten-Timmu Sokk. Krisjan Kangur is a real legend of Estonian basketball. He is a 8-time holder of the “The basketball player of the year” title in Estonia, 5 times won gold medals of the Estonian championship, 2-time champion of Italy (as part of “Montepaschi Siena” and “Milano”). Sten-Timmu Sokk is a son of one of the best players in Estonian basketball, Tiit Sokk, who as part of the national team of the USSR became the Olympic champion in Seul. Sten-Timmu Sokk is a 3-time champion of Estonia, in 2011 and 2016, he was in the symbolic five of the Estonian championship, currently is a player of the national team of his country. Kangur and Sokk are undeniable leaders of their team. Kristjan makes most rebounds (10.1 per match in the LEBL) and is the most effective player of “Tallinn Kalev” – 23 points. Sten-Timmu is the best assistant of the club from the Estonian capital with 4.4 assists per match, currently he is a player of the national team.

“On paper”, Saturday’s “Prometey” opponent the club “Kalev/Cramo” is able to create much more problems to the Ronen Ginzburg’s team than “Tallinn Kalev”. Before the 2005/2006 season, the club bought the right of using brand “Kalev” in their new name. “Kalev/Cramo” is 11-time champion of Estonia anf the winner of the LEBL in 2020/2021 season (in the final, they defeated VEF Riga with the score of 86:75).

In the current season, “Kalev/Cramo” competes at three fronts at once: In the Estonian championship, the LEBL and the FIBA EuroCup. In the national championship, the team of the local specialist Heiko Rannula won all 7matches; in the LEBL they are sitting in 3rd place with 4 wins in 6 matches; also they are doung quite well in the Group F of the FIBA EuroCup, having 3 wins in 4 matches. Herewith, one out of three competitors of Estonian club in the FIBA EuroCup is the Ukrainian club “Budivelnyk”. On October 19, “Kalev/Cramo” defeated the club from Kyiv on their court with the score of 83:74.

The leaders of “Kalev/Cramo” aere American guards Alterique Guilbert and Wesley Van Beck (on average 13.8 points in the LEBL, the best indicator in the team), Latvian center Martins Meiers (6.4 rebounds per match), Estonians Martin Dorbek, Kristjan Kitsing and Arturs Konochuk. Dorbek (the best assistant ov “Kalev”) and Kitsing played for the Estonian national team at the last EuroBasket. 20-year0old Ikrainian guard Oleksandr Kovliar also has a good reputation in “Kalev”. In the LEBL Oleksandr averages 13 points, which is the second figure after Van Beck. The guard was not called to the Ukrainian national team for the last matches against The Netherlands and Iceland due to an injury.

Both confrontations of “Prometey” with the representatives of the capital of Estonia are awaited by the fans of all three teams with a great interest. You can follow the course of events in the matches “Tallinn Kalev/Audentes” – “Prpmetey” and “Kalev/Cramo” – “Prometey” on November 18 and 19 respectively thanks to video broadcast on the YouTube channel “DIVISPORT BASKETBALL”, starting at 19:00 and 18:00 respectively.
