Today, in Latvian city of Ventspils, “Prometey” played the jubilee tenth confrontation in the Latvian-Estonian legue Pafbet. In its first matches in this tournament, the best Ukrainian club demonstrated such a level that any club from Baltic countries considers as an honour to defeat them. One week ago, “Kalev/Cramo” from Tallinn broke wonderful undefeated streak of Ronen Ginzburg’s team, which consisted of 8 matches at that moment. Probably, BC “Ventspils” also had ambitious plans for today’s confrontation.
Latvian club supported their wishes with quite decent basketball. In the first quarter, the teams competed in the ability to hit the opponent's rim from the three-point line. “Ventspils” players recorded 7 successful attempts at once in their assets; herewith, they sometimes hit in absolutely incredible way. Saying about “Prometey”, today’s birthday boy Gian Clavell and Issuf Sanon scored twice each.
“Long-range artillery” of “Ventspils” helped the team to win the starting quarter, but in the following two, it worked idly. If before the long break, “Prometey” chased the hosts of the court, in the third one they not only successfully coped with their task, but also set their handicap at "10+" for the first time in the match in the 26th minute. Issuf Sanon continued scoring and assisting his partners, Caleb agada was unstoppable again; Ondrej Balvin and DJ Kennedy demonstrated their skills to surpass opponents in their “paint”.
Before the last break, “Ventspils” halved their deficit, but it was the third quarter that largely changed the course of the match in favour of our team. In fact, they controlled the course of events in the entire last 10-minute segment. However, the final result was under the question after two in a row attacks from the arc by Ivan Gandia-Rosa and Kristaps Mediss. There was just one possession between the teams (82:79 in favour of “Prometey”), but Gian Clavell hit the opponents hoop at a very timely with a crazy shot when he was about to lose his temper. “Venspils” tried to save the match using tactic fouls, although DJ Kennedy constantly punished the opponent from the penalty line.
“Prometey” won 90:83. But next Wednesday, on November 30, they will hold the match of the 6th tour of the 7DAYS EuroCup, in which they will host the club “Ulm Ratiopharm” from Germany at the “Zalgiris Arena” in Kaunas.
