One of the surprises of the first months of this season was a rather mediocre performance of "Cherkaski Mavpy", today's rival of our "Prometey". At the same time, the Cherkasy club has such personnel potential that allows them at least to fight for a place in the playoff zone. Players such as Henry Dugat, Oleksander Kolchenko, Ivan Tkachenko, Max Konate have established themselves in our championship long ago, and American newcomers to Cherkasy this season Duvon Maxwell, Isaac Hamilton and Rodney Pervis have already demonstrated their high class.
Today's match had to inspire confidence in Cherkasy fans that their favorite team will soon have to fix their tournament affairs - it looked so decent against the clear leader of the championship. "Mavpy" managed to take the lead in the first minute and a half of the match thanks to accurate shots from the perimeter of Henry Dugat and Ivan Tkachenko. After "Prometey" organized his spurt (6:0), rivals took the lead in turns for a long time, until "Red and Whites" managed another leap (7:0) thanks to four consecutive points by Miro Bilan and a shot from behind the arc of Denys Lukashov.
In the debut of the second quarter after Oleksander Belikov successfully completed his fast pass, the handicap of "Prometey" for the first time in the match reached double digits (23:13), and in the 14th minute after a long shot by D'Angelo Harrison increased by 4 points . However, even before the siren for the long break, the "Mavpy" managed to cope with this effective series of the national champion, not inferior to them in the number of rebounds on the backboards.
The third ten minutes began with the fifth accurate three-point shot by the captain of the hosts Tkachenko, after which their gap was reduced to only two points. However, after that, Maxim Michelson's team failed to cope with another productive series of guests. The Red and Whites groped for the opponent's weakness in this match - defense in their three-second zone. Miro Bilan constantly scored from there, using his advantage over rivals in size, and many combinations and quick attacks of the guests ended from under the hoop. In total, Prometey scored 52 points in opponent’s "paint", 24 more than their rival.
In the 27th minute, after a long three-point shot by Chris Dowe, the visitors broke through by 15 points, but the "Monkeys" did not give up and then continued to "hold the blow". Three and a half minutes before the final whistle, they were 9 points behind, but at the right moment, D'Angelo Harrison "turned on" in full. His two hits from the perimeter largely decided the next, already the 17th in the current championship, winning result for "Prometey".
