For the second straight year Prometey starts in the pre-season tournament Pinar Cup

Прометей Пінар Кап

For the second straight year, Prometey will participate in the representative pre-season tournament Pinar Cup, which is traditionally hosted by Turkish city of Izmir. In addition, Ukrainian club has arrived in Izmir as the winner of last year’s tournament. That time, in very competitive matches, “titans” consecutively surpassed long-time Euroleague participant Fenerbahce (93:89) and the hosts of the court Pinar Karsiyaku (93:86).

This year, Darussafaka should have played instead of Fenerbahce. However, as it turned out a bit later, another Turkish league BSL representative, Manisa, will be the substitution. The club from the city of the same name entered the elite of Turkish basketball just last year. In the regular BSL season, Manisa sat in 11th place without making it to the playoffs. In the upcoming season, the club will definitely try to make their path to the Top-8 teams of the championship participating at the same time in the EuroCup FIBA tournament.

It is against Manisa, Prometey will play its first match of the tournament on September 22. Next day, “red-and-white” will play against more authoritative opponent.

Pinar Karsiyaka is one of those Turkish clubs that do not belong right to the elite of local basketball but have substantial authority in both their country and European basketball in general. Thanks to clubs like Pinar Karsiyaka, you can make an overall opinion of BSL strength. Prometey’s opponent is the two-time champion of Turkey and the winner of Turkish Cup-2014.

Last season, the club from Izmir, fought for the championship title beating Turk Telekom (Prometey’s offender in the EuroCup) with a score of 3:1 in the playoff semi-final series. However, in the final, the elite Turkish club Anadolu Efes left no chance to Karsiyaka – 3:0.

In the 2020/2021 season, Pinar Karsiyaka accomplished its most significant success on European arena, entering the Champions league final but losing to Spanish Burgos 59:64. In the 2023/2024 season, the second Prometey rival in the Pinar Cup will try to repeat or, probably, improve the two-years-ago result. In less than a month, the team starts in the Champions league group round with a home match against Belgian Filou Oostende.
