The second match of the eighth paired tour of the Women's Superleague between "Prometey" and the capital's "Budivelnyk" as well as yesterday’s was a clear indication of how much competition has increased this season in the league. The highest grade of any match is a real pleasure that the direct participants of the spectacle get from the game. Today was just such a game and this opinion after the match were shared by representatives of both teams.
For the second day in a row, the final score did not reflect the passions that raged on the field. More telling evidence, that opponents were worthy of each other, were some final statistics: the teams were roughly equal in the percentage of throws from the game in general and two points in particular, assists, etc. Moreover, in number of rebounds in fact were recorded equal numbers.
Approximate equality of forces has been observed for a long time, including in terms of developments of events on the court. As the day before, the teams exchanged starting jerks: "Prometey" in three and a half minutes scored twice as many points as the opponent (12 against 6, while Ariel Atkins scored 7 points), and Kyiv responded with a "dry" result series of 8:0 (Kristen Spolar scored 6 points in this period and 14 in the quarter). Prometey quickly regained the lead, but for the first break the rivals went with the handicap of Victoria Bolshakova's team in only one possession of the ball - 28:25.
A similar development was observed in the second ten minutes. "Budivelnyk" was able to take the lead in the 16th minute, due to the fact that Kelly Kane, under the hoop of our team, used her excellent physical skills. The champion of the country responded with his jerk 9:0, but again won the quarter with a difference of "+3".
"Budivelnyk" not only eliminated this gap in 6 points in the third quarter, but also went ahead, after which they were in the lead for about 5 minutes. Only in the 28th minute our team took the lead again (Ariel Atkins), but this time not to return the lead to the opponent any more. Long-range hits by Ariel and Joyner Holmes before the last break were very important.
Accurate hit from behind the arc by Joyner in the 34th minute was quite timely. The final five minutes were under complete control of Prometey. At the decisive moment, all the leaders of the team proved themselves: Ariel Atkins and Tetiana Yurkevichus made a double-double; Joyner Holmes lacked only one rebound for such an achievement, and Olga Dubrovina traditionally gave the most productive assists in her team. "Prometey" obtained the 15th victory in 16 matches and thus strengthened their leading position, breaking away from today's opponent.
