“Prometey’s” win over “Joventut” last week made Ukrainian club a sole leader of the EuroCup Group A for the first time in the season. “Prometey” set for themselves a high bar of results, so now, their priority task for the five upcoming tournament matches is to keep their leading position.
Tomorrow, on February 8, In Lithuanian Kaunas at “Zalgiris Arena, “Prometey” will play against the team from the opposite pole of the tournament standings: Slovenian “Cedevita Olimpija”, with 3 wins in 13 matches, is sitting in the last place.
Current tournament position does not mean a park walk for “red and white”. In the November’s road match Ronen Ginzburg’s team had to made a maximum effort in order to attain victory (94:89). “Cedevita Olimpija” is the third team in our group in terms of productiveness. They concede to the leader as for this indicator, our “Prometey”, not much – just 21 points. Our opponent is a “throw” team that loves and can attack from the perimeter. In the last “Cedevita Olimpija” match against Italian “Reyer Venice” Omic stoodout with unbelievable 19 rebounds, which helped his team to celebrate victory 77:73.
The opponent’s failures could be explained by unreliable defense (the last place as for missed points). However, the team of Croatian specialist Jurica Golemac is definitely able to correct their tournament position. In fact, now each of five matches left in a group tournament turns out to be like an early final for Slovenian club. So, “Cedevita Olimpija” arrives to Kaunas well motivated.
The same refers to “Prometey”. Success of the best Ukrainian club will secure an early ticket to the Play-off. Considering unbelievable pace of “red and white”, it should happen sooner or later. However, would be nice to complete this task now, before the big pause for the official matches of National teams.
