At the start of the 7DAYS EuroCup, “Prometey” reached all its success on the home court. The only road match in Italian Brescia ended up with a crushing loss. However, the fact that it was just a regrettable coincidence was proved by the following match of our team in the EuroCup against Turkish “Bursaspor”.
The “red and white” played their second road duel in Spanish Badalona. This confrontation also became a great evidence that the Ronen Ginzburg’s squad can play on equal footing with any team of the tournament. The starting 10-minute segment was a game of significant spurts from both sides. Already in the 5th minute, the hosts of the court registered their handicap of a little less than a dozen points (11:2). Within this game segment, they acted excellently in defense, and The American guard Kyle Guy sparkled with his productiveness in offense (5 points). However, one second before the end of the quarter, Kyle Guy was fouled by Denys Lukashov and made one free throw.
Unfortunately, the long break benefited only the hosts of the court. The third quarter performed by our team turned out to be a total setback. Within its 8 minutes, “Prometey” put in their assets only three points and slightly reduced this gap, which reached 22 points, only before the last break.
And here, in the final 10-minute segment, Ronen Ginzburg’s squad almost managed an incredible comeback. The “red and white” finally made three-point shots (2 successful attempts by Denys Lukashov and 1 by Oleksandr Lypovyy). Gian Clavell and Caleb Agada were literally “on fire” on the court. Our team was constantly redusing the points deficit and eventually, after the productive pass by Agada 81 secondt before the final siren, conceded only for one possession (72:75). After 18 seconds, the long-range hit by “Joventut” player Pep Busquets almost became the decisive moment of the duel. The other way around, DJ Stephens at “-4” for “Prometey” was not accurate from the arc, and it was also one of the decisive events of the match. Caleb Agada brought our team closer to the rivals by 2 points (77:79), but there was not enough time to do more. Gian Clavell on purpose fouled on Pau Ribas, and Spanish star, with the three accurate shots put the full stop in this thrilling confrontation.
