Ukrainian national basketball team, in the roster of which there are four “Prometey” basketball players, Denys Lukashov, Oleksandr Lypovyy, Illia Sydorov and Ivan Tkachenko, plays the next match of qualification for the World Cup today.

Ainars Bagatskis’ team is set a task to defeat the national team of Iceland in order to maintain the chance to enter the World Cup. 

In August in Iceland, Ukrainians conceded in overtime 88:91 and this loss made our chance to enter the World Cup much worse. Therefore, we have to win with an advantage of 4 and more points, in order to surpass Iceland in head-to-head matches.

On November 11, “blue and yellow” won on the road over the Netherlands. On the same day, Iceland conceded at home to Georgia 85:88.

The roster of Icelanders has hardly changed since August. The  guard of Lithuanian “Letuvos Rytas” Elvar Fridriksson is also there.

As a reminder, the game starts at 16:00 on Kyiv. Such an early start is due to the FIBA decision to held all games of the selection tour on one day, so after our match finishes, one more game will take place – the hosts, Latvian national team will play with Great Britain.
